Beginner
Level 1 | Students in this level will build up a fundamental set of vocabulary with proper pronunciation and reading skills. The goal for this level is to gain basic conversational skills with Chinese-speaking individuals like describing simple day to day routines, present conditions, appearances as well as answering questions in both positive and negative responses are the main subjects to practice and learn through this level. |
Level 2 | This level will elevate students to use a broader vocabulary to express basic feelings and emotions. It will also enable students to make comparisons, with basic descriptions, as well as use adverbs when describing actions. They will also be more confident in a simple and direct way to offer and accept basic invitations, applying their new found skills to their daily lives. |

- You can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
- You can introduce yourself and others
- You can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, what you do, people you know and things you have
- You can ask and give directions
- You can order food and drink
- You can make very basic travel and accommodation arrangements
- You can have a basic conversation, provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Elementary
Level 3 | After completing this level Students will be capable of describing things that are related to their everyday lives and will be able to confidently initiate a conversation. They will begin to use phrases related to various situations. They will have the ability to read and understand in detail basic subjects, with a few exceptions when less common words are used. They will also have started to use some idioms in their conversations. |
Level 4 | Students, after completing this level, can state their opinions and provide supporting phrases and examples with details while participate in debates. They can express their feelings clearly and be involved in more events to describe how their feelings during the discussion. |

- You can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas including basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography and employment
- You can communicate in simple and routine tasks, requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters
- You can describe, in simple terms, aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need
- You can comfortably ‘get by’ when visiting the country, albeit with some difficulty.
Intermediate
Level 5 | With a larger vocabulary and being more able to recognize many Chinese expressions and idioms, students in this level are capable of reading Chinese newspapers and magazines, watch Chinese films and write and deliver a lengthy speech in Chinese independently. Students feel confident using synonyms in addressing the same meanings. Students are able to express themselves using complex structures after studying almost all grammar patterns. |
Level 6 | Students who complete this level will have an impressive understanding of academic and casual vocabularies. They can make fluent and informational speeches. They are able to hold discussions on a wide range of topics effortlessly. They can maintain their own points of view in a debate and use convincing phrases in negotiating professionally. Students are ready to work in a Chinese speaking environment and would be able to be a Chinese teacher as a career after taking teaching courses, training and become certified. |

- You can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
- You can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken
- You can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest
- You can describe experiences and events
- You can talk about dreams, hopes and ambitions
- You can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans
- You could consider working in the country using the language (e.g. bar/counter work, waiting service in cafés or basic office work).
